I hadn't skated in a week but had a lesson so I really sucked at everything we did except the FI3/FO3 pattern which was better than normal. It was near the end of the lesson, we were doing back crossover 8s on the hockey circles. We have doors which are normally closed right where the circles are closest to the wall. I normally rock on BXOs but not having skated in 2 weeks and not practicing that and having someone watch me... they really sucked. So L was telling me I needed to pick up my back foot sooner. I was gliding backwards watching here and messing with my feet and the wall came up faster than expected. No problem, I back into the wall all the time. I just threw out my hand to grab the wall, but the door was open so there was no wall. I flipped myself right out of the rink. My butt hit the pointing part of the door opening. I have a giant vertical bruise that exactly matches the door jam.
It was rather dramatic, but I think really it hurt less than if I did the same thing on the ice. But it did shake me up more than expected. I was laughing, but I really didn't feel like skating any more so I went home. |
